Are you interested in foster care and come from a culturally and linguistically diverse background? If you are, there may be a child from the same cultural background needing a loving and stable home. We need a foster family to help them stay connected to their culture and community.

We need carers from all communities including Arabic, Greek, Vietnamese or one of the many Pacific Islander communities.

All children in care from culturally diverse backgrounds are required to have a special ‘cultural care plan’ to help them stay connected to their cultural identity.

A child’s cultural identity is an important part of who they are. Children who are strong in their culture have higher self-esteem, confidence and expectations of what they can achieve.

As a carer, you’ll get free phone advice and support, and can join a carer support group. In some locations there are Vietnamese, Arabic and Pacific Islander carer groups available.

You will work closely with a caseworker who will support both you and the child in your care. All foster care agencies are interested in carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

If you are interested in becoming a ‘multicultural’ carer talk to one of the many foster care agencies across NSW supporting children in care or contact Settlement Services International or Creating Links – who specialise in working with carers and kids from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
