Choosing to foster is a major decision. Don’t hesitate to ask your local foster care agency for further information to help you in making a decision.
The process for becoming an authorised carer generally takes between three and six months.
The application process includes attending information and training sessions as well as undergoing the household, medical and police checks required by law in order to work with children. You can also discontinue the process at any time.
Foster care is provided by a range of designated non-government agencies as well as Community Services. Some agencies work only in specific areas or regions while others care for the whole of NSW.
In addition, some specialise in certain age groups or in the types of care they provide.
All provide training and support to equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a successful foster carer.
These agencies are waiting to hear from you. Choose from the list below or use our map to select your region to learn more about the different foster care agencies in NSW.
